ABOUT
Malakai is an adornment brand known for iconic celebrity pieces and its deep roots in alternative culture. Our values – artistry, craftsmanship, and a kinship with the earth – guide the design of our creations. With each genderless adornment, Malakai seeks to evolve the perception of beauty and give form to fantasy.
Malakai, founded in 2022 in Berlin and NYC, is an evolution of House of Malakai and the namesake of our creative director. House of Malakai came to be in 2013, at our atelier in Bali, Indonesia. Malakai's wearable art, millinery, and jewellery quickly became a favorite of celebrities, including Beyonce, Madonna, Rihanna, FKA Twigs, Erykah Badu, CL, Doja Cat, and Nicki Minaj. The pieces have been featured in Vogue, Dazed, W Magazine, V, Rolling Stone, and countless other fashion publications. Malakai created the iconic headdress and body jewellery for Beyonce's unforgettable 2017 Grammy performance “Love Drought.” The Paris AW17 catwalk featured Malakai headpieces for Rick Owens, Balmain, and Manish Arora. Known for quality, craftsmanship, and innovative handiwork, the label has become a source for celebrity stylists, music videos, global campaigns, and collaborations.
Malakai and House of Malakai are established couture labels and streetwear brands alike: ready-to-wear collections that have hit cult status among fashion-forward youth, particularly in London, Tokyo, New York, Berlin, and Seoul. Malakai’s creations are marked by their attention to detail and use of handcrafted, sustainably sourced materials in combination with modern digital techniques.
Malakai draws inspiration from the past and future: science, high fashion, revolutionaries, archaeological digs, and underground movements. Seamlessly weaving ancient culture with technology, the work transcends time and place. It feels like a FAMILIAR MEMORY OF SOMETHING WE’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE.
